ISLAMABAD, April 7 (APP): National Coordinator, Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC), Dr. Muhammad Ishaque Mastoi has warned that the threat of Locust heart can turned deadly if all the stake holders do not take it seriously. The Locust hearts in Thar Desert, parts of Baluchistan and Khyber Pukhtunkhwa are currently in incubation and timely action can reduce the threat.
Dr. Mastoi said this while talking to APP TV Tuesday. He said that the large population of locust heart in Iran can create serious problems for Pakistani agriculture as international sanctions on Iran has made it difficult for her to counter the challenge.
He said that National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) and other government departments have established help centers in under threat districts and Farmers should inform the government on contact numbers announced in concerned districts for quick and timely action.
He said that the entire nation is engaged in countering the Covid-19 pandemic but the locust heart attack may be a more serious threat if not countered appropriately.
He said that the attack started from Yamen and it is moving through Iran towards Pakistan. Pakistan is engaged with Iran, India and Afghanistan as the threat needs a coordinated response on regional level.
